1666: Amsterdam Developer Gets Caught, Fesses Up To Using AI Assets
Panache Digital Games apologized on X after players discovered that AI-generated assets appeared in the prologue for 1666: Amsterdam. The studio said some early versions of assets made their way into the release and promised they would be replaced by human-created art "soon."
The post acknowledged that "a number of people have raised questions or concerns" and said the team found AI was used in some in-game portraits and external marketing assets. It added the studio is "actively reviewing the assets in question" and that "human made versions will be released in an update dropping soon."
Panache concluded by saying, "We own up to this oversight and apologize for any upset caused. Please be assured that the Early Access and full game will not include any assets generated by AI." The incident follows a broader backlash from players who have pushed studios to remove AI-made art and replace it with work from human artists.
