16 Years Later, 'That's What the Money Is For' Defines Mad Men
Season 4 of Mad Men reshaped the show: a new office, new partners and employees, and a Peggy Olson who has fully transformed from timid secretary to creative force. That shift — and the evolving, often fraught bond between Peggy and Don Draper — finds its most concentrated expression in Season 4, Episode 7, "The Suitcase," widely regarded as the series' high point.
The episode, which aired on September 5, 2010, confines most of the action to Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. While the office heads off to see the second match between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston, Don and Peggy stay late to finish a Samsonite campaign. Across a long night of drafting they argue, unearth painful secrets, and reach a deeper, more intimate understanding of one another.
