007 First Light Tops Daniel Craig Films on Metacritic
James Bond is facing some of the biggest changes in his 73-year history after Amazon MGM Studios took creative control of the franchise following the departure of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michel G. Wilson.
The studio’s first reboot, 007 First Light, developed with IO Interactive, has been released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Starring Patrick Gibson as a young Bond, the game returns the character to his roots with a reimagined origin that begins in Iceland and sends him worldwide when the rogue return of 009 threatens the 00‑Programme.
Critical response has been strong: 007 First Light holds an 87 on Metacritic, with praise for Gibson and the way it "beautifully marries" sandbox elements with "explosive set pieces" while honoring classic Bond touchstones. That score places it above every Daniel Craig film—Skyfall at 81, Casino Royale at 80, Quantum of Solace 58, Spectre 60 and No Time to Die 68—and ties it with 1964’s Goldfinger, also rated 87.
