007: First Light rewrites Bond's origin with two key twists
The James Bond franchise has been largely quiet since Daniel Craig's exit in 2021, but recent activity and a new project have renewed interest in the character's beginnings. 007: First Light, the first franchise entry to focus solely on Bond's origin, maps out his MI6 recruitment and early missions while Patrick Gibson portrays a young Bond learning the trade.
One central revelation is the role of John Greenway, played by Lennie James. Greenway initially resists Bond's inclusion in the 00 program, but their fraught relationship grows into a near father–son bond; his arrival to back Bond during a failed mission and his subsequent death provide a sharp emotional pivot that could translate well to a live-action origin story.
The game also reframes Bond's 007 designation. Bond is introduced as the seventh recruit and becomes the only one officially made a 00 agent by the end, with several fellow recruits killed, wounded, or missing.
