YouTuber runs Anthem on private peer-to-peer servers after shutdown
Kotaku reports that YouTuber And799 posted a video showing Anthem running on local peer-to-peer servers after the game's servers were shut down.
In the clip And799 got the game running with two players in the same matchmaking space, though some online features, such as viewing an online profile, did not work. The video description says the setup is for "research" and an "experiment" and should not be taken as evidence of any formal revival, but it demonstrates a playable version is possible even if EA and BioWare aren’t helming it themselves. This appeared mere days after Anthem was shut down on January 12.
Fans hope preservation efforts will continue and may restore the unfinished campaign, but it is unclear how much of the online experience they will be able to rebuild. Anthem's shutdown comes about a year after BioWare was subject to significant downsizing following the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with remaining developers working on the next Mass Effect; the studio teased that game on N7 Day but was silent around Dragon Age’s fan day in December.
