The Witcher 3 remains a beloved, sprawling game, praised for its world and characters. It offers many player choices — from Keira Metz’s fate to who to romance — but those decisions often change only Geralt’s personal journey rather than the wider world or political conflict.

The Witcher 2, by contrast, ties choices to major narrative branches. Choosing between Iorveth and Roche in the first act reshapes the rest of the game: you visit different areas, tackle unique quests and meet characters you wouldn’t otherwise encounter. That structure encourages replaying the title to see the full story.

Replaying a long RPG can be a big ask today, yet a middle path exists. Baldur’s Gate 3 demonstrates that player agency can produce serious narrative consequences and alter how areas play out without gating large portions of the game behind separate playthroughs.
