Collider reports that Season 4 of Will Trent, which premieres January 6, 2026 on ABC, opens with a significant shift in Ramon Rodriguez’s detective’s personal life: Marion Alba (Gina Rodriguez), Will’s Season 3 love interest, departed the show in Season 3 and is not expected to resurface immediately.

Marion Alba first appeared in the Season 3 premiere "I'm a Guest Here" as an Assistant District Attorney and became romantically involved with Will in the episode "No Faith In Second Chances." The show had already altered Will’s romantic path after he arrested his on-again, off-again partner Angie Polaski in the Season 2 finale "Do You See the Vision?" and later faced a devastating incident in Season 3's "Best of Your Recollection," when Will accidentally shot and killed a 14-year-old, an event that led him to push Marion away and their breakup in "You're The Worst Person in the World." Executive producer Liz Heldens told TVLine that "Marion is not going to resurface before seasons' end" and added, "I wouldn't rule out her coming back in Season 4 at all." Gina Rodriguez’s return remains possible, but the series may also introduce a new romantic arc: Ramon Rodriguez asked, "is there new love in Will's life?" The article notes that bringing in Sara Linton from Karin Slaughter’s novels would be a major change and could close the door on resuming Will’s relationship with Marion.
