Wanderlove: are we really more attractive and alluring on holiday?
Wanderlove, a term coined by the dating app Bumble in 2022 to describe a trend predicted for 2023, perhaps has finally arrived in 2026. It refers to falling in love while on holiday — being open to romance while travelling — and is different from wanderlust, which really means a lust for travel rather than travel for lust.
Bumble’s survey finds 53% of its users are hoping for a summer holiday romance, and the same proportion say they feel more attractive on holiday. A third of users say they use dating apps to meet people while travelling alone. The writer suggests they may be fooling themselves and adds that travel ought to provide a break from dating apps: "We're living in 2022.
Wake up." Wanderlove might be a hookup in an Airbnb with someone who isn’t from your home town, or it could be the start of a long-distance relationship. Long-distance relationships have roughly the same success rate as regular relationships — about 60% — because they require commitment, trust, honesty and compromise.
