Time Strike offers time-stopping combat in a voxel setting
Playing FPS games makes me feel old; my twitch reflexes are shot and that usually means I get shot. I wished I could stop time to reposition, line up a headshot, grab an enemy missile and redirect it, or teleport behind them. The reveal trailer for Time Strike at the PC Gaming Show promises all of that.
Mode 7’s footage highlights a voxel aesthetic that recalls blockier days of gaming, and shows dense urban sandboxes where enemies can come at you from any angle. Why you’re fighting is hardly explained—this is a videogame and you’ve got a gun, so stop asking questions and start shooting.
What distinguishes Time Strike is the ability to pause time at will so you can turn and take out foes first. You also get a doohickey that can redirect missiles, lob helmets at enemies or tear down walls and ceilings on top of them, plus a gadget that teleports you short distances—one NPC even looks confused as you warp behind him and shoot him in the back.
