BBC series The Traitors has introduced a new role — the Secret Traitor, who wears a red cloak and whose identity is unknown to contestants and viewers — and producers say that identity will be revealed on Wednesday evening's edition after the early banishment of Hugo the treacherous teddy bear.

The red‑cloaked twist has stoked paranoia among the Traitors and invited the audience to play along as armchair sleuths. Saturday’s episode ended on a cliffhanger with the contestants about to meet their mysterious puppet master for the first time; the show’s coverage has prompted a run of fan theories about who could be beneath the hood.

The Guardian lists ten leading theories: Amanda (the retired detective with covert training), Jade (a PhD student and gamer, with viewers arguing the Secret Traitor might be female), Ellie (critics pointed to a possible slip of the tongue), Jessie (present in the library), Fiona (whose handwriting and behaviour have been highlighted), Roxy (who might seek revenge after her mother’s banishment), Harriet (an author shown among framed photos), and a group of younger men including Sam, Adam, Faraaz, Jack, Matt and Ross.

Wild‑card suggestions have even named presenter Claudia Winkleman or Alan Carr.
