People outlines the Targaryen family tree across Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon and the new prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set to premiere Jan. 18. The Targaryens are presented as once ruling Westeros as dragonlords for nearly three centuries; by the time Game of Thrones opens they have been toppled and exiled, while Daenerys seeks to restore the dynasty.

House of the Dragon rewinds to the family at its height and traces key figures such as Aegon the Conqueror — who united the Seven Kingdoms and whose dream of rising darkness foreshadows the White Walkers — and later rulers including Jaehaerys, Viserys and Rhaenyra, whose naming as heir leads to the civil war called the Dance of the Dragons.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas and introduces younger Targaryens including Egg (Aegon), who travels incognito and later becomes King Aegon V, as well as Aerion, Maekar, Baelor and Daeron. The prequel is set about 90 years before Game of Thrones and places Egg as the ancestor of the later rulers: he becomes Aegon V, is the great-grandfather of Aerys II and the great-great-grandfather of Daenerys and Viserys III.
