Steam Summer Sale prompts hoarding of forgotten '90s PC oddities
Valve launched its Steam Summer Sale last week, and familiar patterns returned: Red Dead Redemption 2 received a 75% discount for the 14th time since January 2025, The Witcher 3 saw its fifth 95% cut since July 2024 (and 15 other discounts at slightly lower rates), and Cyberpunk 2077 reached a new low of 75% off after eight 65% discounts since June 2025.
Big publishers—Ubisoft, Sega, Sony, 2K and Bethesda—dominate the front page, while steady indie sellers like Terraria, Satisfactory and Dead Cells also share the spotlight. Seasonal sales rarely surprise these days; publishers tend to increase discounts incrementally as titles age, and many shoppers stick to wishlists.
Rather than chase mainstream bargains, I spent a Sunday diving into Steam's trove of '90s PC obscurities, a rabbit hole that's part fascinating and part unsettling. One example is an Accolade-published 1994 FMV motorbike racer.
