Star Wars' film slate is at a crossroads, and one unexpected project has quietly provided a clear example of where the franchise could go next. Star Wars: Visions, which filters the saga through an anime lens, features a breakout Season 1 segment, "The Ninth Jedi," written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama.

The episode follows Lah Kara (Kimiko Glenn), the daughter of a lightsaber smith, as she is pursued by forces working for the Sith and discovers her own connection to the Force. Kara’s arc mirrors Daisy Ridley’s Rey in striking ways: both are young women living on the margins who embark on journeys that reveal latent Force powers and larger destinies.

The Ninth Jedi even leans into the theme that appearances deceive — an armored figure, Magistrate Juro, evokes Darth Vader but turns out to be a Jedi in disguise, echoing how The Force Awakens plays with identity and expectation. George Lucas often said entries in the series could echo each other "like poetry," and this segment makes that point neatly.
