Slayblade, a Beyblade-inspired roguelike, arrives in Steam Next Fest demo
Slayblade is a top-battling roguelike with a demo in this month’s Next Fest. Compared to From the Top’s darker vibe, it leans harder into Y2K nostalgia with a Toonami-core soundtrack, pixelated overworld sprites, and chunky, era-appropriate pseudo-Beyblade designs.
You play as a nameless Slayblade battler chasing the Slayblade World Championship, which will supposedly reveal why your father vanished after inventing perpetual motion Slayblade technology. Runs span days of skating between cash-prize battles, swapping winnings for parts and tournament entries; you can also mow lawns for extra money and experience or join “illegal,” high-risk matches.
Parts are split into top heads, bodies, and tips, each with a weight stat affecting impact, handling, and momentum, plus an active effect triggered by collecting a power up cube. Combinations can be potent: one part halves the time until the next cube, and paired with a Buster body that summons a spin-draining ghost it can flood the arena with vampiric phantoms.
