After a long drought, Konami’s Silent Hill series feels like it is in the midst of a renaissance. Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2 and NeoBards Entertainment’s Silent Hill f have reset expectations, and this September Screen Burn Interactive could complete a hat trick with Silent Hill: Townfall.

A 30-minute hands-off demo at Summer Game Fest Play Days dropped players into St. Amelia, a foggy British village circa 1996, and introduced protagonist Simon Ordell exploring in first person without an on-screen UI. The town itself is the focus: photorealistic exteriors and painstakingly detailed interiors — from authentic British kitchens to clunky desktop computers — give the setting a strong, moody presence, and the pacing is noticeably slower than Silent Hill f.

Puzzles lean on period technology. Simon navigates with a handheld CRT TV that can be tuned to different stations; one channel flashes cryptic images that point toward an abandoned house.
