Shift Up prioritizes playability for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain arrived at Summer Game Fest during a volatile, expensive moment for gaming hardware. Current-generation consoles have become costlier, PC builds are harder to source, and new devices such as Valve's Steam Machine have been delayed by parts shortages.
A large share of the pressure on supply chains comes from AI data centers consuming components en masse, making upgrades less affordable for many players. Shift Up CEO Hyung-Tae Kim says the studio is designing Blood Rain with those constraints in mind. He highlights "density" in the game's sprawling city as an improvement over the original, while noting advances are not being pursued "on the premise of rising hardware specs." "I believe there is a limit to progress based on price," Kim adds, "Therefore, we are prioritizing making the game playable for users with current-generation consoles or current PCs." The studio has demonstrated strong optimization before: Stellar Blade received an "absolutely dreamy" PC port after a period as a PS5 exclusive.
