Sakurai says Smash Bros. food heals roughly by real-life calories
Kotaku reports that Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai said food items in Smash Bros. heal characters roughly in order of their real-life calorie content.
Nintendo introduced smaller food items in Smash Bros. Melee that restore a few damage points when eaten, and those recovery amounts often looked random or minimal. Kirby's Twitter account pointed out a similar calorie-based ordering in Kirby Air Riders, and Sakurai wrote, “In Smash Bros., the recovery amounts for food items generally follow the order of their calorie content.”
The implication is that heavier items such as hamburgers and baked goods heal more than fruit, but the report does not list exact recovery values or specify whether the rule applies to every Smash release.
