RPG Maker forum to close on December 11 with no public archive
After roughly 14 years, RPG Maker is shutting its official online forum, a long-running hub where hobbyists and indie developers shared tutorials, guides and advice. The engine helped creators with little coding experience build games—examples include Ib and Omori—and the forum has hosted posts going back to 2012.
A forum announcement states, "As part of upcoming changes to the community management structure, the official RPG Maker forum will transition to a new platform operated by Gotcha Gotcha Games Inc. This transition is intended to support the continued growth of the RPG Maker community under the new forum." It adds that "the current forum will be retired" on December 11 and that "There are currently no plans to provide a public archive or backup of the current forum once it has been closed." The post also "encourage[s] users to save any posts, guides, resources, or other content they wish to keep before the forum closure." The lack of a public archive has prompted strong criticism from users.
