Rogue Heroes has climbed streaming charts as audiences rediscover the series’ remarkable true story. The Steven Knight drama follows David Stirling (Connor Swindells) and a group of soldiers who form a paratrooper regiment tasked with dropping into inhospitable locations to carry out sabotage that would help shape the Special Air Service.

The show leans into its anti‑heroes. Paddy Mayne (Jack O'Connell), Stirling and Jock Lewes (Alfie Allen) are drawn as volatile, driven figures—Mayne a “wild animal,” Stirling a posh son seeking approval, and Lewes a god‑fearing man who pushes others to the limit.

Their appetite for destruction and moments such as Mayne ignoring objectives to slaughter enemy soldiers complicate the audience’s sympathy for them. Historical accuracy has held up broadly. Historian Joshua Levine, via History Extra, describes the events as mostly true, and Knight has acknowledged the series shows “failure and disaster,” including Stirling’s disastrous parachute test that left him bedridden.
