RJ Cipriani settles explosive lawsuit that ousted Jeff Shell
High-stakes gambler RJ Cipriani — whose bombshell lawsuit helped trigger the ouster of Paramount Skydance executive Jeff Shell — has quietly settled with the studio, bringing to a close one of the most chaotic chapters in recent Hollywood memory. Cipriani had sued Shell for $150 million, alleging Shell reneged on a promise of a reality show and shared confidential company information involving ten-figure "South Park" and UFC deals, as well as Larry and David Ellison’s efforts to acquire Warner Bros.
Shell quickly countersued, describing Cipriani as "an inveterate gambler" who attempted a shakedown and saying he faced death threats related to the "South Park" matter. Cipriani then added a who’s-who of defendants, including the Ellisons and RedBird CEO Gerry Cardinale, and the dispute drew in other powerbrokers such as Ari Emanuel and a former roommate known as "Tango." An internal investigation followed, and Shell ultimately lost his job.
