Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, the third game in Asobo’s series, takes a clear turn away from the stealth mechanics that defined the earlier entries and leans into action-adventure. I played a beta version at a press event in May, sampling the tutorial and one full chapter, “Abyss,” and found combat placed firmly at the center of the experience.

Sophia, the playable character, faces groups of enemies with different weapons and defenses. She has only three hit points, but killing foes restores one, which keeps fights rapid and unforgiving. Parrying is crucial to break most guards, and Sophia can dodge, kick, use a grappling hook to pull down archers, and throw items to stun opponents.

Weapons can be upgraded and a combat-oriented skills system unlocks further options; the combat feels fluid, if occasionally repetitive once the systems are learned.
