Readers sent in their favourite coastal walks across the UK, praising tidal islands, clifftop views and tucked-away beaches. The recommendations range from short circular routes to long coastal paths, with many notes on wildlife, sunsets and places to stop for a drink or picnic.

On Anglesey the 130-mile Anglesey Coastal Path draws praise, but the offshoot to the tidal island Ynys Llanddwyn is a perennial favourite: a mile-long walk along the main beach to white-washed lighthouses, ideal for all ages—just check the tide times. Further west, the pretty village of Portpatrick offers dramatic cliffs, the ruins of Dunskey Castle at sunset and a bluebell-scented forest path through Dunskey Glen.

Accessible Hornsea combines ramps, clifftop viewpoints and a blue-flag beach with views to Flamborough Head and frequent seal and bird sightings. On the northeast coast, Redcar leads through Coatham Marsh to the South Gare breakwater where wind turbines and former industrial horizons meet fishers’ huts and the South Gare Marine Club.
