Rangers appoint Derek McInnes as manager as Danny Rohl heads to Salzburg
Rangers are set to appoint Hearts boss Derek McInnes as their new manager, as Danny Rohl prepares to leave for Red Bull Salzburg.
McInnes, 54, spent five years as a player at Ibrox between 1995 and 2000 and has emerged as the club’s primary target. He previously turned down the chance to manage Rangers in 2017, and the board moved quickly to reach an agreement with Hearts.
Rohl is close to being officially unveiled by Salzburg after intense negotiations. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh and chief executive Jim Gillespie have been finalising the exit, which will bring a seven-figure fee from Austria.
A six-figure compensation deal has been agreed with Hearts, who have been aware of Rangers' intent over the last 24 hours and are not expected to block the move. With key figures in Boston for Scotland’s World Cup clash with Haiti, a formal announcement is expected after Rohl’s departure is confirmed.
