Finding Prime Day gaming PC deals that outvalue the Steam Machine
Summer sale season is here, and with Valve’s Steam Machine now launched, PC shoppers face a clear choice this Prime Day. Even amid a RAMpocalypse, there are opportunities to get better long-term value from a traditional gaming PC build. I’ve tracked prebuilt desktop prices for more than three years, reviewed systems, built my own rigs and tested many components.
From that perspective, a system with a discrete GPU and upgrade paths typically delivers stronger gaming performance and longevity than a mini-PC that uses an APU. I’ll be scanning deals across Newegg, Best Buy, Walmart and Amazon for prebuilt systems, modest upgrades and the parts you need to build a living-room gaming machine.
Prime Day runs from June 23rd-26th, and often the sharpest offers come from competing retailers; Amazon’s deals can be limited-time or Prime-exclusive, requiring a trial or membership. The Steam Machine is offered in four bundles: 512GB for $1,049 or $1,128 with a Steam Controller, and 2TB for $1,349 or $1,428 with a controller.
