Polish President Vetoes Crypto Bill for Third Time Ahead of MiCA Deadline
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed a cryptocurrency regulatory bill for a third time. He said he supports regulating the market but that the government adopted just one of 16 amendments his office proposed, leaving the text nearly identical to the earlier drafts he rejected.
The veto delays Poland’s implementation of the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets framework with weeks to spare before MiCA’s transitional period ends on July 1. After the grace period, crypto asset service providers will need a MiCA license or must stop servicing EU clients, and Poland remains the only member state without a domestic implementation.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticised the move on X, writing: “It sounds unbelievable, but the president has vetoed the cryptocurrency bill again. He seems more entangled in it than everyone thought.” Lawmakers failed to override Nawrocki’s second veto in April, falling short of the 263 votes required; the bill is backed by Tusk’s government.
