Afil Games, a Brazilian studio known for low-effort “shovelware” titles, says PlayStation is blocking it from releasing further games on the platform. On X the studio wrote, “PlayStation has decided not to continue its partnership with Afil Games for future releases,” and that “our games will be removed from the PSN Store in the near future.” Shovelware has long been associated with easy-to-earn trophies and titles that mimic more popular releases to catch inattentive buyers.

Platforms have only recently begun addressing the problem: Steam has a reputation for hosting such games, the Nintendo eShop altered how it displays listings to curb discount-driven bestseller manipulation, and Sony has taken steps to crack down on similar behavior.

The move to delist Afil’s catalog — the studio has more than 140 titles on PlayStation — has sparked a debate.
