Just over six months after its early access debut, PlayerUnknown Productions is halting work on Prologue: Go Wayback! and laying off staff. The studio said it hopes to return to the game "at a future point in time," but for now "we will be unable to complete our early access plans." The studio is preparing an update it plans to release soon that will add new items and paths and trails to enhance exploration.

With that update, the team intends to release the game out of early access and make it free for any players who want to check it out, and it is investigating offering refunds to players who have purchased the game. Founder Brendan Greene explained the studio's aim to develop Melba technology to push the scale of virtual worlds and built Prologue as a practical application of that terrain-generation work.

He said he has reached the limits of how far he can continue to fund the project, prompting a restructuring: Melba development will continue with a smaller team while further work on Go Wayback is halted.
