Path of Exile 2 devs nixed a temple exploit before it wrecked the in-game economy
A few months ago, Path of Exile 2 players were griping about the in-game economy after a currency-farming strategy tied to the temple became dominant. The loot from the newest activity was so generous that anyone who skipped it was effectively priced out of buying gear.
Developer Grinding Gear Games issued a list of nerfs for the newest league, but clever players still found ways to profit and restarted the exploit. After only a few hours of the strategy being abused, the studio pushed a hotfix with much heavier reductions to the temple's output.
The temple system works a bit like a card game: you’re dealt rooms that must be placed to connect and maximise rewards, and normally a few rooms get deleted after runs. There was a specific layout that preserved the most valuable rooms, however, and using it could net the equivalent of thousands of dollars in Path of Exile currency items as Divine Orbs started raining down, which would have driven prices up and destabilised the economy.
