Nintendo confirms Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake
Nintendo is remaking The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with the game due in 2026 to mark the series' 40th anniversary. The company says the title has been "reborn" for the new hardware, and early footage suggests a complete visual overhaul that departs from the look of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
The reveal trailer is brief and opens with narration from the Great Deku Tree echoing the original game's opening. It shows Link, the lone Kokiri without a fairy, sleeping restlessly; during the nightmare the Triforce begins to glow on his left hand. Ocarina of Time first launched in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and followed The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, shifting the series from 2D top-down play into fully 3D environments.
The game introduced mechanics such as Z-targeting and context-sensitive buttons that went on to influence many 3D adventure games.
