New Xbox CEO aims to speed up Fallout and Elder Scrolls sequels
It has been eight years since The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced, and little new information has emerged. With development costs and hardware prices rising, large projects face the risk of even longer timelines, and the new head of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma, is being positioned as a potential catalyst for change.
Sharma plans to inject additional funding into Xbox’s biggest franchises, giving studios such as Bethesda Game Studios and Halo Studios the financial backing to accelerate work on Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Halo. The idea is that more resources could shorten development cycles and bring sequels to players sooner.
There is still no official release window for The Elder Scrolls 6. Estimates in the discussion range from as early as 2027 to 2029, with some predicting delays into the 2030s. Given that Skyrim arrived in 2011 and a 20-year gap between major entries is conceivable, the timeline highlights how lengthy these projects can be compared with previous gaps such as the five years between Oblivion and Skyrim.
