At Computex this year Montech revealed an unusual PC case that made me blink and shake my head. At first glance the F738 Pro looks like a stylish mid-tower sitting above a large base that houses the power supply, but what appears to be fixed slats on the front panel are actually shutters you can rotate.

Montech calls it "Airflow in suspension." A knob underneath the front panel lets you swing the slats across to block much of the intake area, ostensibly to reduce airflow and noise when full cooling isn’t required. That approach struck me as odd because the same effect can be achieved by setting up fan profiles in the motherboard BIOS.

In my own system, a Fractal Design North XL fitted with Noctua fans, I use different profiles so the rig is nearly silent during light tasks and ramps up cooling automatically for gaming or heavy builds. Montech’s shutters would require you to reach for the front panel every time you switch between light desktop work and gaming, which feels unnecessary.
