Breath of the Wild effectively did away with old-school Zelda dungeons, and Tears of the Kingdom brought the idea back without the traditional puzzle-box design. One clear appeal of the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake is the chance to revisit those classic challenges with modern graphics and visual flair, but Miyamoto has said that during the original Ocarina development he concluded traditional dungeons were "not really that much fun." In a 1999 interview he explained that "In every Zelda development, the dungeons take a huge amount of time to make," and recalled that the original Legend of Zelda began as dungeons with no overworld map — a testament to what he called the "Dungeon Supremacy" philosophy.

That workload often forced remakes and revisions while teams were exhausted, he said.
