Mike Flanagan makes The Dark Tower TV adaptation his top priority
Movieweb reports that The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan is developing a TV show inspired by Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and has made the project his top priority.
Flanagan, who recently adapted King’s The Life of Chuck and also delivered a new take on Carrie, told Empire Magazine (per Deadline) that “It’s moving ... We've got a lot of scripts done for it. It's the first priority.” The Dark Tower cycle comprises eight novels, a novella and a children’s book, and previous attempts to bring the saga to screen—including the 2017 film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey—were criticised for their brevity (the film ran 95 minutes) and received just 16% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Prime Video once developed a series that cast Sam Strike and Jasper Pääkkönen but ultimately chose not to move forward with a pilot.
Flanagan said, “We can't let that be the final word. We really can't,” signalling his intent to address the 2017 film's reception. What is confirmed is that scripts exist and the series is a priority; the update does not include further production or release details.
