Melted Asus ROG Equalizer cable surfaces amid ongoing Nvidia connector concerns
Asus introduced the ROG Equalizer cable to address fears about melting connectors on certain Nvidia RTX cards, but a clear photo posted on ChipHell shows a seriously fried ROG Equalizer plug. Three of the six power pins appear scorched and one plastic housing looks considerably melted.
No details were provided about the power supply, graphics card, or circumstances, so the image alone cannot establish cause. The issue traces back to Nvidia's compact 12VHPWR connector and its 12V-2x6 update. A high-end card can draw hundreds of watts, and if current becomes unevenly distributed one pin can exceed the connector's per-pin rating, producing heat and damage.
Early reports of melting on RTX 4090 models even led to a class action. The power-supply market now offers a range of fixes, yet the 12V-2x6 tweak has not eliminated failures.
