Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck Reunite in The Best Is Yet to Come
As Ferris Bueller's Day Off nears its 40th anniversary in 2026, Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck are reuniting for a new comedy called The Best Is Yet to Come. The 1986 John Hughes film, led by a then-23-year-old Broderick and a then-29-year-old Ruck, followed high schooler Ferris on a single-day romp through Chicago and became one of the most beloved movies in history, grossing $70.7 million worldwide and ranking among 1986's top ten earners.
In the new movie the two play lifelong friends who set off on a bucket-list adventure after a misunderstanding leads one to believe the other is terminally ill. The Best Is Yet to Come is based on a French film of the same name and has been compared to Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman's The Bucket List (2007).
Alan Loeb wrote the script, and casting was first teased in May 2025.
