Mason Greenwood transfer in danger as Roma seek sales to fund move
Mason Greenwood’s proposed switch from Marseille to Roma has stalled, as a complex transfer domino involving Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal now threatens the move. What had appeared to be progressing has been held up by a chain of financial requirements that both clubs must resolve.
Marseille urgently need to sell Greenwood, expecting a fee of about €50m–€55m, with that income seen as essential ahead of their appearance before the DNCG on Tuesday. The deal is currently stagnant; Roma have emerged as the leading candidate but cannot complete the purchase until they balance their books to satisfy financial fair play rules.
Il Messaggero reports Roma must generate roughly €50m in capital gains before the end of June, meaning any incoming transfer hinges on outgoing sales. The Italians are looking to “sacrifice” midfielder Manu Kone to raise funds. Kone is on the shortlist for Arsenal and Chelsea, but privately favours a move to PSG, and the French club’s potential involvement—despite no offer—has slowed the market dynamic.
