Mark Waid co-writes Justice League Unlimited roleplaying game
Mark Waid, who has written for DC since 1985 and penned 1996’s Kingdom Come, is co-writing Justice League Unlimited: The Roleplaying Game, which begins crowdfunding in July. “I know so much about the DC universe after all this time that I'm always looking for some place to share that information,” Waid said, adding that his “interest in role-playing games goes back to my college days.” D20 Culture CEO Peterson Rodrigues brought Waid on to help the team portray characters faithfully.
The official tabletop game lets players take on established heroes or create their own using a wide variety of powers and backgrounds; a quickplay PDF available now includes a starter adventure in which heroes protect Metropolis from the Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw while stopping Parasite from gorging himself on power.
Rodrigues emphasized steering players away from “murderhobo” behavior and toward the themes of series like JLU and World’s Finest. “It’s a game about heroes and we want you to play as heroes,” he said.
