Major book-to-screen adaptations set to premiere in early 2026
The New York Times published a running list of some of the most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations scheduled for early 2026, ranging from Netflix series to theatrical releases.
Highlights include the Netflix premieres of His & Hers (Jan. 8), starring Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson, and People We Meet on Vacation (Jan. 9), adapted from Emily Henry’s rom-com. Other January entries noted were The Seven Dials Mystery (Jan. 15) — whose 1929 reception at the time included The Times calling its solution 'utterly preposterous' — Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty (Jan. 21), H Is for Hawk in theaters (Jan. 23) starring Claire Foy, and season 4 of Bridgerton on Netflix (Jan. 29).
March offerings include The Bride! (Frankenstein) on March 6, with Maggie Gyllenhaal shifting focus to the bride (Jessie Buckley); Scarpetta (Postmortem) on March 11, with Nicole Kidman as Kay Scarpetta; Reminders of Him in theaters on March 13; and Project Hail Mary on March 20, starring Ryan Gosling — a reviewer called the novel 'an engaging space odyssey' but wrote, 'For a sense of wonder, we can wait for the movie.'
The list covers many more adaptations and notes early reactions — for example, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights trailer bills the film as 'inspired by the greatest love story of all time' — and the Times said it will update the running list as the year goes on.
