Lewis Hamilton to back England and Brazil at 2026 World Cup
Lewis Hamilton has said he will be supporting both England and Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, saying his home nation and the Selecão are equally close to his heart. The seven-time world champion said his admiration for Brazilian football is rooted in the country's culture, history and style of play.
The tournament will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico; England were drawn in Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama, while Brazil are in Group C with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. Hamilton, 41, has long shown an affinity for Brazil and was granted honorary Brazilian citizenship in 2022.
"For me, it's tied with England," he said. "Honestly, Brazil has always been my favourite team. Growing up in England, I used to love watching Brazil play. I think it's the colours, the culture, and the players always just looked the most skilled, they were so cool." He also highlighted the humble beginnings of many Brazilian players, praising the grit that comes from the favelas and the country's street-football culture.
