Movieweb reports that Lee Byung-hun has addressed his Golden Globe nomination after becoming the first Korean performer nominated in the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical category for director Park Chan-wook's satirical thriller No Other Choice.

Byung-hun told Variety he learned of the nomination when a Korean friend texted him while he was asleep: "I was sleeping. And my Korean friend texted me. That's how I found out, but it was like dreaming..." He noted he is trying to be satisfied with the nomination itself, saying acting "is not about winning or losing." The article also points out his recent credits include Netflix's Squid Game and the streamer’s most-watched movie, KPop Demon Hunters, and lists his category rivals as Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), George Clooney (Jay Kelly) and Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon). He said he liked One Battle After Another and Train Dreams, describing Train Dreams as delivering a sustained, pricking sadness throughout.

The piece notes this is Byung-hun's first Golden Globes experience at the 83rd ceremony, which Nikki Glaser is hosting and which will air on CBS and Paramount+ tonight (January 11). Movieweb's review of No Other Choice called Park's film a pitch-black comedy; beyond the nomination, the outcome of the awards remains to be seen.
