Leaving the V8 in the past: The all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door
Mercedes and AMG unveiled an all-electric successor to the GT 63 4-Door Coupé at a high-profile event on Los Angeles’ Sixth Street Viaduct, presenting a production car that leans heavily on the Concept AMG GT XX. The launch emphasized new hardware—including axial-flux motors from YASA and F1-derived battery cells—and drew members of Mercedes’ F1 operation and a string of celebrities to the reveal.
The new GT departs from previous Mercedes EV styling, trading rounded EQ shapes for a digital-era design with a jutting front grille, reclined headlights and a Kamm-tail rear. Proportions are low-slung, closer to a Panamera or Taycan, and the interior follows an EV skateboard layout with a center spine, “foot garages” between battery modules, canted touchscreens, a large hatchback trunk and a small 1.4-cubic-foot frunk.
Two variants will launch: a 55 and a 63 that share hardware but differ in output, with the lower spec at 805 hp and the top at 1,153 hp.
