Keith Richards at 82: great-grandad, health and less jousting with Mick Jagger
Keith Richards has become a great-grandfather and, video-calling from the Hit Factory, enthused that he is a 'fantastic grandad' who lets the children hang with him for as long as possible before handing them back; he laughs about losing track of their ages. He says he survived by listening to his body and pacing himself, and that he quit smoking cigarettes six years ago.
He still smokes weed, is not drinking this week but otherwise drinks in moderation, and joked: "So, yeah, it’s only a ton of heroin a day now." Richards is also promoting a new Rolling Stones album, Foreign Tongues. He credits producer Andrew Watt as a 'breath of fresh air', says Mick Jagger has been prolific and that the band kept pushing on the momentum from Hackney Diamonds, with some songs dating back about 20 years and others recorded more recently.
The record mixes disco-era Stones sounds with a cover of Amy Winehouse's You Know I'm No Good and a guest appearance from Robert Smith, which Richards says he didn't witness.
