Jordan Peele says Poop offer in The Emoji Movie pushed him to make Get Out
Collider reports that Jordan Peele said being offered the role of Poop in the 2017 animated film The Emoji Movie helped him quit acting and inspired him to pursue directing, leading to his debut Get Out.
The Emoji Movie, directed by Tony Leondis, holds a 6% on Rotten Tomatoes and featured an all-star voice cast. Speaking at the DGA Awards in 2018, Peele said, "The Emoji Movie actually helped me quit acting. I was offered the role of Poop," and recalled telling his manager, "That's f--ked-up," then saying "F--k this" when he learned the part had already been cast with Sir Patrick Stewart.
The article says Get Out immediately established Peele as a major filmmaker and helped spawn the so-called "elevated horror" trend; Peele's next project remains clouded in mystery. Get Out is available to stream on HBO Max in the U.S.
