Jason Statham's 'The Mechanic' Is Leaving Free Streaming
Jason Statham’s action remake The Mechanic, released in 2011, is scheduled to leave free streamer Pluto TV soon. Pluto has not confirmed an exact removal date, but the film is likely to be gone from the platform around July 1.
An update of the 1972 Charles Bronson thriller, The Mechanic was released by CBS Films and grossed just over $76 million against a $40 million production budget. Critics were mixed—Rotten Tomatoes shows a 54% score—and the film drew controversy when the UK's Advertising Standards Authority pulled a TV ad for what it described as a stream of violent imagery.
Statham plays assassin Arthur Bishop, who is ordered to kill his mentor Larry (Donald Sutherland). The plot follows Larry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) as he investigates the murder, with Bishop secretly helping him until the truth emerges. Foster’s performance gives him space in the action, while Statham’s role leans on the tough, emotionally burdened character he frequently portrays.
