IDW to publish five‑issue Sleepy Hollow prequel comic in May

Movieweb reports that IDW Publishing's IDW Dark imprint will publish a five‑issue Sleepy Hollow prequel comic titled Sleepy Hollow: The Witches of the Western Wood, with the first issue due on May 6. The series is written by Delilah S. Dawson with artwork by Jose Jaro and will tell the origin story of Lady Mary Van Tassel and the beginnings of her connection with the Headless Horseman.

Fans will recall that she was portrayed by Miranda Richardson in the original movie, and ended up getting dragged into Hell by the Hessian after her plot to kill off her heirs was thwarted by Crane. Dawson said it's "a dream come true to get to be able to play in the world that Burton first brought to life more than two decades ago" and added: "Prepare yourself to learn the secret history of Lady Van Tassel and her relationship with the Horseman — if you dare." The prequel will take readers back to when Lady Mary went by the name Sarah Archer and was taught the ways of witchcraft while she and her twin were forced to endure abuse and neglect.
