IDC predicts PC sales slump in 2026 as Apple doubles MacBook Neo production
New data from IDC predicts PC sales will fall 11.3% in 2026, with 2027 nearly as weak and 2030 still not back to 2025 levels. IDC says, "The culprit is a persistent memory shortage with no meaningful relief expected before the end of 2027," and warns that rising prices are making it hard for manufacturers to maintain full product portfolios.
Shipments did grow 3% in the first quarter of 2026 versus the same period in 2025, but IDC cautions that "that strength was largely borrowed from the future," as buyers accelerated purchases ahead of anticipated price hikes and product availability constraints.
The firm says the result will be a sharp downturn in sales in the years ahead. Apple stands out amid the weakness.
