I used Navy SEAL training techniques to raise my kids
Brandon Webb left the Navy SEALs to spend more time with his three children. He credits a nontraditional childhood—homeschooling and frequent travel with parents he describes as hippies—with giving him early confidence. He joined the Navy at 18, met Gretchen four years later, and after September 11 everything shifted; by the time their first child was born in November 2001 he was deployed to Afghanistan.
After 13 years, six months, and six days, Webb decided he did not want the SEAL team to replace family. He had invested in real estate while enlisted and later worked on defense contracts, so the family was financially stable. His marriage struggled and Gretchen asked for a divorce while they were in counseling, but they continued therapy to become good coparents; she and the children moved to her parents' ranch and he stayed in the guest house, and today they maintain a strong relationship.
