At WWDC 2026 Apple announced macOS 27 'Golden Gate,' due this fall. The update focuses on performance improvements, visual design refinements and a redesigned Siri. The developer beta is available now, but it is intended for developers — features may be unfinished, buggy or underperforming.

Apple typically releases the public beta in July; do not install the developer beta on your primary Mac and back up your data before making system-wide changes. Golden Gate ends support for Intel-based Macs, so you need Apple Silicon. Compatible models include MacBook Air M1 and later; MacBook Pro M1; MacBook Neo; iMac M1 and later; Mac mini M1 and later; Mac Studio M1 and later; and Mac Pro M2/2023 and later.

To access the developer beta, register as an individual on Apple's Developer site with your Apple account (membership costs $99/year). Then enable beta updates on your Mac: System Settings > General > Software Update, click the (i) icon next to 'Beta Updates', choose 'MacOS Developer Beta', click Done, then Update Now.
