Hidden FaceTime feature lets you leave video and audio voicemails
My editor told me she had spent the weekend showing two people how to use a little-known FaceTime feature: video messages. I wondered whether my husband or my parents knew how to leave one when a FaceTime video call went unanswered. They didn't, so I showed them how it works.
FaceTime video messages work like voicemail but with video and only for FaceTime users. They appear only after a FaceTime video call goes unanswered: let the call ring until it times out and the option to record a video message appears. To view a message, open FaceTime and play the video thumbnail in the call history, or tap a person's entry and check Videos or Voicemails.
For FaceTime audio there's a related Live Voicemail feature. Enable it in Settings > Apps > Phone > Live Voicemail, then place a FaceTime audio call by opening FaceTime, tapping New FaceTime, selecting a contact and using the phone icon.
