Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, developed by Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) and built on Unreal Engine 5. It modernizes the classic shooter, adds new content including three prequel missions, and is due to launch on July 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

This version focuses on the single-player campaign rather than competitive multiplayer—there is no deathmatch or capture-the-flag. Co-op is supported with up to three friends on all platforms, and consoles allow up to two-player split-screen. Gameplay gets several modern additions: optional sprinting, the ability to steal vehicles, and weapons and enemies introduced in later Halo entries such as a player-usable sword, the Needler Rifle, and powerful Brutes.

Much of that new content appears in the three prequel missions, and the game includes 43 skulls that alter gameplay — from randomizing weapon spawns to a skull that switches the game to third-person. Activating multiple skulls can dramatically change how levels play out.
